Dear friends,

We take great pleasure in presenting this year´s TOTAL MUSIC MEETING program which focuses on ´Master Musicians´ and ´Young European Improvisors´ from the areas of acoustic and digital electronic improvised music and the interface with contemporary New Music, along with two exhibitions and lectures.

For the first time the complete program was broadcasted live to the Internet in cooperation with International Art & Science.

A special highlight will be the opening performance, on November 1, involving the American trombone player and composer Prof George Lewis with his Electronic Project VOYAGER. This concert takes place in collaboration with the Electronic Studio of the Technical University Berlin.

In addition, George Lewis will hold a lecture on Friday, 2.11., 7 pm, in the Clubroom of the Podewil on the development and impact of VOYAGER: »Too Many Notes: Computers, complexity and culture in Voyager«. (Recommended reading: Leonardo Music Journal 10, 2000).

Throughout the festival we will also be presenting an exhibition of ´'visual art´ from improvising musicians in the Clubroom of the Podewil with works of (in alphabetical order) Bill Dixon, Floros Floridis, Uli Gumpert, Sven-Åke Johansson, Peter Kowald, George Lewis, Paul Lytton, Tony Oxley, Evan Parker, Hans Reichel, Alexander von Schlippenbach, Carlos Zingaro, and others.

In the Foyer of the Podewil, the photographer Roberto Masotti from Milan will be exhibiting portraits of musicians taken over the last few years.
